Ashiana provides a specialist service for women and girls from South Asian, Turkish and Middle Eastern backgrounds who have experienced violence against women and girls (VAWG) by providing specialist refuge, advice, support and counselling to empower them to make informed choices and decisions about their future. It also aims to raise awareness of VAWG, including harmful practices such as forced marriage, honour based violence and female genital mutilation, with statutory and non-statutory agencies, professionals and the wider community.

VAWG Community Engagement Worker

London

Part time – 21 hours/3 days

Ashiana are looking for a candidate who will:

  • Deliver a range of community engagement activities with the aim of encouraging dialogue and promoting understanding of VAWG issues
  • Using a range of practical and creative tools to educate young people about the violence and abuse perpetrated in relationships, challenge attitudes that condone and conceal domestic and sexual violence, as well as addressing harmful practices (HP) such as forced marriage, honour based violence and female genital mutilation.
  • To facilitate and deliver community engagement awareness-raising sessions where needed; delivery will be provided in the preferred language
  • In conjunction with the Lead partner, managing and coordinating the initiation, administration and delivery of Whole School Approach (WSA) and the projects in schools within designated boroughs of London

Applicants must have:

  • An understanding of the issues effecting women, particularly BME women
  • An understanding of the impact of discrimination on the lives of BME women
  • An understanding of the concept of confidentiality in working at a refuge
  • A commitment to and the promotion of equal opportunities in the provision of Ashiana’s services
  • An understanding of the aims and objectives of Ashiana and a commitment to them being carried out

It is desirable for candidates to be fluent in at least one of the following languages: Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, Turkish or Farsi.

Some evening and weekend work is required.

Female Specialist Advice Worker x 2 Vacancies

Ashiana are seeking to recruit an experienced Specialist Advice worker to ensure:

  • To be responsible for co-ordinating work within the Advice Team
  • To provide advocacy and support on behalf of the Network
  • To manage complex Advice cases
  • To have experience in delivering presentations to professionals
  • To be responsible for advocating to a high standard and advising women that accesses our Advice Service
  • To be responsible for monitoring targets for the Advice Team
  • To carry out community engagement when required
  • To attend MARAC when required

Applicants must have:

  • Demonstrable experience of working within an environment providing Advice and Advocacy
  • Considerate experience of working with young people including work with BAMER women and girls
  • Experience of advice and support work
  • Knowledge of how local authorities and housing associations work
  • Knowledge of making a homelessness application
  • Experience of advocacy with statutory agencies
  • Fluency in at least one of the South Asian languages, preferably Urdu

Female Counsellor & Group Worker

£25,950 p.a. plus OLW

Part time – 28 hours

All posts are London based

Ashiana are looking for a candidate who will:

  • Work within the counselling team, delivering age and culturally appropriate counselling to women and girls between the ages of 16+ who are experiencing or have experienced domestic violence and/or sexual violence, who present with mental health, depression, emotional distress and trauma
  • To make counselling accessible to isolated/hard to reach women and girls
  • To and set up and provide therapeutic support groups in specific boroughs
  • To provide counselling in a south Asian language, preferably Urdu speaking

Applicants must have:

  • Qualification – BACP accredited or working towards accreditation
  • Demonstrable experience of working with women and girls effected by childhood sexual abuse, sexual violence and domestic abuse
  • Over 250 hours of clinical experience
  • An understanding of VAWG and the impact of trauma as well working from a trauma model and perspective
  • An understanding of child protection issues
  • An understanding of the specific needs of BME communities
